Internationalism

"I want a school where children see themselves as citizens of the world."

At St. Austin's Academy, the children learn to think like citizens of the world. This is done through the curriculum and through our annual East African Model United Nations that is held at the United Nations Environmental Programme Headquarters, running debates and lectures on the diversity of human society.

With daily life becoming increasingly global, employment ever more international and international travel a regular event for most people, today's children need a better understanding of how to cope with the challenges that world presents.

Students, who learn and grow up in an international environment, will find it far much easier to adjust and adapt in adulthood. They will have already acquired the empathy and understanding that will enable them to handle the challenges of the wider society more effectively.

It is the school's wish that every student participates in. We also actively encourage students to visit each other's families to promote greater international understanding. Examples of these have been recent basketball trips to Peninsula College in Seattle Washington, in the U.S.A. and University of Cape Bretton in Nova Scotia, Canada.
